The composition of this piece served as means to explore the world of computer assisted composition. Using the programming environment OpenMusic developed at IRCAM, I coded various algorithms based on hidden markov models that in turn generated the basic musical material used in the composition. I then sculpted the material into a more satisfying musical synthesis.
…viñas en campos de viñas… is scored for two trumpets and two trombones. The audio player above has 3 excerpts of a recording of the premiere performance selected from the beginning, middle, and end of the piece, respectively. The piece was premiered by the Berkeley Contemporary Chamber Players.
